Île de France betekent letterlijk eiland van Frankrijk. Hart van Frankrijk zou ook een goede benaming zijn, want wie Frankrijk bezoekt kan bijna niet om Île de France met de Franse metropool Parijs heen.
Een vakantie of een omweg waard    
Met de metro/RER binnen 45 minuten vanaf Parijs bereikbaar. De plek om Mickey, Goofy , Donald Duck en alle andere Disney-figuren te ontmoeten.
Het bos van Fontainebleau
Een prachtig gebied, 25000 ha groot, een mengelmoes van naald- en loofbomen. In dit bos lieten de schilders van Barbizon zich inspireren door de natuur. Als u dit bos bezoekt begrijpt u waarom.
De kathedraal van St. Denis
In deze kathedraal zijn de graftombes van vele Franse koningen te bewonderen. En uiteraard de tombe van de heilige St. Denis.
Versailles
Is het kasteel van de Zonnekoning Lodewijk de XIVe . Bewonder de slaapkamer van de zonnekoning, de kapel, de spiegelzaal. Daarna kunt u in het park de fonteinen met de karpers of de romantische boerderij van koningin Marie-Antoinette bewonderen.
Het kasteel van fontainebleau
Een kasteel van koninklijke allure, dat qua uitstraling kan concurreren met Versailles. Het schoolvoorbeeld van een Frans paleis in Renaissancestijl. Bezoek de balzaal, de koninklijke kamers en het Musée Napoleon.
Centre Pompidou
Is de meest bezochte plek van Parijs. Op het plein voor het Centre Pompidou, het Plateau Beaubourg is altijd van alles te zien: vuurvreters, clowns en muzikanten. Ook het Centre Pompidou zelf is leuk om binnen te gaan. Veel wisselende tentoonstellingen en een restaurant bovenin met een schitterend uitzicht over de stad.
Eiffeltoren
De meest klassieke attractie van Parijs: De 320 meter hoge toren. Over het hoe en wat van het uitzicht hoeven we het uiteraard niet te hebben. Stap voor de perfecte foto uit bij metrostation Trocadéro en wandel de trappen af, langs de fonteinen naar de Eiffeltoren.
Champs Elysées
De mooiste winkelstraat van Parijs.
Notre Dame
De meest beroemde kathedraal van Parijs. Schitterend gelegen aan de Seine op het Ile de la Cité.
Place du Tertre op Montmartre
Het meest artistieke plein van Parijs:  waar kunstenaars zich in rijen verdringen om u in olieverf te vereeuwigen.
Louvre
Het grootste museum van Parijs en van de wereld,  het met z'n Piramide en z'n Mona Lisa. Op elke 1^e zondag van de maand is de toegang gratis.
Denfert-Rochereau
De meest spannende attractie van Parijs: de knekelhuizen in deze catacomben.
Place de la Concorde
Het mooiste plein. De enorme obelisk is afkomstig uit Egypte

Yvelines in the Ile-de-France, a department to the West of Paris and covering some 2 300 square kilometres, is comprised of 262 communes with a population in 1993 of around 1343000. 80% of its surface area consists of protected open countryside. With the undulating and wooded landscapes of the Hurepoix, the 3 000 hectares of the Forest of Rambouillet, the Versailles plain and of course the Regional Nature Parks of the Upper Chevreuse Valley and the French Vexin, Yvelines is rightly regarded as the « green lung » of the region. It is also a land in which water is very much in evidence, with almost 700 kms of rivers and streams, quite apart from the mighty Seine.Its road, motorway and rail networks, its private airfields and its navigable waterways provide easy access to the department from Paris and other regions.
Apart from being in agricultural terms
the second most important department in France, the economic dynamism of Yvelines can also be seen in the dramatic growth of high technology industries and the service sector. Industry and commerce account for more than 17 000 businesses and employ more than 300000 personnel in three major concentrations : the Seine valley, the industrial zone of Vélizy-Villacoublay and the new town of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, chosen as sites for new plants by companies such as Bull, Thomson and Matra.Car production, represented by Renault and Peugeot, the Aérospatiale plant at Les Mureaux, prestige brands such as Grand Marnier Liqueurs and Rochas Perfumes have also elected to set up in Yvelines.With a secure foothold in the XXth century, Yvelines in nonetheless mindful of its prestigious past and conserves the precious natural, architectural, cultural and artistic heritage of that past. It is not by chance that it has become a tourist destination of the first rank.

Melun    De industriestad Melun vindt haar oorsprong in een Keltische nederzetting op een eiland in de Seine. In Melun werd de eerste Brie, kaas, gemaakt. De kerk Saint-Aspais, 16de eeuw, is laatgotisch. De kerk Notre­Dame is van oorsprong 11^de eeuws, maar is in de tijd van de gotiek en de renaissance sterk gewijzigd. In het Hôtel de la Vicomté is een klein plaatselijk museum ingericht. Het Musée Chapu is gewijd aan Henri Chapu, 1833-1891, een der officiële beeldhouwers van de Derde Republiek.
Omgeving
Abbaye du Lys, 3 km ten zuidwesten van Melun: de abdij is in 1244 gesticht door Blanche van Castilië, weduwe van Lodewijk VIII. Bewaard zijn ruïnes van het transept en het koor van de kerk
